Overview

Michael Manuel is a Counselor in the firm's Real Estate Group. With more than 30 years of experience in real estate law, he represents commercial real estate owners, developers, investors and operators in the full range of commercial real estate transactions, including purchases and sales, leasing, mortgage and mezzanine finance, syndications, joint ventures, negotiating and closing transactions, restructuring, workouts, bankruptcy and foreclosures. 

In addition, Mike heads the firm's Renewable Energy Group, which was formed to assist clients in preparing for change and to provide counsel in leading edge sectors, such as carbon trading, renewable energy production and transmission, and clean technology finance. In 2018 he co-founded Tsuga Investors, which is a platform for capitalizing on convergent opportunities in commercial real estate and renewable energy, particularly solar distributed generation. His speaking engagements have included "Rooftop Solar From A Real Estate Perspective," presented at the 2014 Energy, Utility & Environment Conference in Phoenix.

Experience

  • Landlord representation in respect of more than 1 million square feet of commercial property, including negotiation of lease, lease renewals and exercise of remedies for tenant breaches. 
  • Private placement of investment interests in multiple real estate funds. 
  • Structuring and documentation of programmatic joint venture.  
  • Representation of equity sponsor executing an investment program focused on Class A multifamily assets, including acquisition, debt financing, equity structuring and dispositions.
